Autopia, the gas-powered attraction in Disneyland’s Tomorrowland, is set for a major upgrade.
Disneyland officials confirmed to KTLA that the resort has an agreement with the California Air Resources Board to retire the ride’s gas-powered engines in early 2027.
Work is underway on the design, engineering and testing of a fully electric vehicle prototype, with more details expected soon, according to resort officials.
Closing and reopening dates for the attraction have not been announced. Disneyland first announced plans to “electrify” Autopia in 2024.
The classic attraction, a favorite among young guests who get to experience driving for the first time, is as old as Disneyland itself, debuting with the park in 1955.
Changes have come to the famed attraction; for example, it was renamed the Fantasyland Autopia and later the “Rescue Rangers Raceway” during the earlier days of Disneyland, but this is the first time Disneyland will move away from gas-powered vehicles.
